The founder of Stud Baependi, the prestigious admiral Mario Luiz de Lima Lages, receiving NILGAI, mounted by the champion-jockey Manoel Silva, called "Bequinho", after to win a race in Gávea Racetrack, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 14 December 1958. The Stud Baependi was renamed Baependi Stud in Europe, by the son and natural successor Luiz Eduardo Muniz Freire de Lima Lages, the actual owner and breeder.

NILGAI, win in the photo above one exceptional race, open for promises of the new generation, classificatory as an animation for 2 years old, in that year (1957) with the same level, class and quality as one stakes for colts, 1000 meters, in the turf, in Gávea Racetrack, the aristocratic place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at 10 August 1957, honouring the colours of the Baependi Stud. NILGAI was a very fighting and brave horse that not only honouring the colours of the Baependi Stud, but over everything his fantastic pedigree! In this race the difference between the first to the fifth was around only 1 length as the photo clearly show! VASCO, from the exemplar Haras Mondesir, mounted by the Chilean legend, the exceptional jockey Juan Marchant, was second, outside NILGAI, with Madagascar, future classic horse from the Haras Guanabara (a design modelled on classical Stud-Farm), finishing fourth, flying outside everyone, riding by another legend from the golden times, the Chilean international jockey Francisco Irigoyen
